Our Philosophy
Dr. Shahwar Syed (Internal Medicine) and Syed Asghar (Internal Medicine) are proud to serve the community by practicing at Crystal Lake & Elgin since 1986. They are a married couple and are raising three children together in the area. They sincerely strive to serve the community, following the motto “Let our family help your family.”
Both doctors firmly believe that in order to get to know patients better, they must listen carefully and not rush them while they are in the office. Each patient is considered a non-listed patient and will be present for the duration of the appointment. They take seriously the trust and confidence they receive from their patients.
They are happy to discuss in detail the nature of any problem or disease that a patient may have, and any and all treatment options available, in full view of their own medical history. It is important to them that the patient makes an informed and mutual decision about their own health care. The patient is always a partner in decision making, and their own wishes are respected and taken into consideration. In their experience, they have observed that a satisfied and well-informed patient is more likely to be compliant with the suggested medical regimen and more often meet follow up appointments for continuation of care.
Along with treating patients with medicines and pharmaceuticals, emphasis is given to promote a healthy lifestyle as an important part of adequate care and health.
The Key to Good Care
Successful care is composed of 3 components:
Food and Diet
Our approach to food and diet involves promoting healthy eating habits, including the consumption of appropriately sized portions that are high in fiber and low in fat.
Dealing with Dependency
We offer counseling services for individuals struggling with tobacco and alcohol dependency, and we encourage and support efforts to quit using these substances. Additionally, we provide pharmaceutical assistance to aid in the process of overcoming these dependencies.
Activity
We prioritize the importance of daily exercise, maintaining a normal BMI, and ensuring adequate rest and sleep
Pain Control
Patients with chronic pain conditions are directed to pain management clinics for their pain medication needs, as both physicians deem it necessary for the safety of the patients to receive supervision. Medication refills are only provided during office hours. Additionally, it is not possible to prescribe antibiotics over the phone without evaluating the patient first.
